Dear Parents and Guardians of the Hermon School Department,
We are writing to provide you with an update regarding the recent PowerSchool data breach that we were informed about last week. The breach occurred on PowerSchool's customer service portal called PowerSource. Please note, this incident occurred on PowerSchool’s systems and did not involve any servers or systems under the control of our school district.
According to PowerSchool, the breach involved the unauthorized access of personally identifiable information (PII), which primarily includes parent and student contact details, such as names, dates of birth, and addresses for all students within the Hermon School Department.
Across PowerSchool's customer base, it was determined that PII such as social security numbers (SSNs) and medical information was impacted in some cases. Unfortunately, medical information for some students in our district was compromised, and a very small number of social security numbers were also affected. We will contact the families of impacted students individually in the coming weeks as PowerSchool provides us with more detailed information.
Protecting our students’ information is a responsibility we take very seriously. With PowerSchool's assistance, we will share additional information and resources, including credit monitoring or identity protection services if applicable, as they become available.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we wait for PowerSchool to work through this situation. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
David Walker
Interim Superintendent
Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,
We have been informed by PowerSchool, the platform our district uses for managing student information, of a recent cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to some customer data stored on their servers. Please note, this incident occurred on PowerSchool’s systems and did not involve any servers or systems under the control of our school district.
PowerSchool has assured us that the breach has been contained and that they are taking all necessary steps to secure their systems and prevent future incidents. While no operational disruptions have occurred, it is possible that certain student, staff, and family information was accessed.
We are working closely with PowerSchool to understand the scope of the incident and will provide updates as more information becomes available. Please rest assured that the safety and privacy of your family’s data remain our highest priority.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to our office.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
The tech committee meeting originally scheduled for today (11/14) has been cancelled. Thank you.

Good Afternoon Duran School Families,
It has been an exciting week of learning at the Duran School. Here is an update of our week:
First grade students are fully immersed in our phonics program (Letterland). They are learning the characters and the character's sounds. I had the opportunity to sit in Mrs. Chichetto's class as they categorized words into word families. Students did an awesome job "fishing" for words and putting them in the right tackle box.
One unit that we study in 4th grade focuses on weather disasters. Teachers capitalized on this weekend's predicted forecast to teach students about tropical storms and hurricanes. Did you know that hurricane's spin in one direction in the northern hemisphere and in another direction in the southern hemisphere? I didn't!
We do have a quick reminder for families that drop off their children in the morning. Please remember to pull through the loop so staff and families entering the parking lot can go through. The parking lot is a one-way, so we ask that you follow the traffic pattern. We also have a "staff of the week" spot that we honor our teachers with--we ask that you do not park there. Thank you all for your understanding and cooperation!
We can't wait to see what next week brings! The following is a list of upcoming events:
September 19: Picture Day for students in grades preK-1st
September 20: Picture Day for students in grades 2nd - 4th
September 21: Title I Night at 6:00
September 22: Homecoming Day--wear blue and gold to support Hermon football!
